In only three months
we will be celebrating our Centennial. We are putting together a

Paris,
1963. Director Henry
Lockwood
has come to the City of Light
for the premiere of his new film, Panic. Accompanied on the
trip by his wife Emma and his
secretary Miriam, Lockwood expects nothing more than to enjoy another
cinematic
success and to bask in the adulation of young French film critic Alain
Duplay.
But when Lockwood is accused of a hideous crime---a crime that could
destroy
his career and his marriage---he's forced to confront the truth about
himself
and those closest to him. Lockwood, known the world over as 'the Sultan
of
Suspense,' is caught in a nightmare straight out of one of his own
films.
Recipient of the 2008 Mystery Writer's of America Edgar Award for Best
Play.
June
4 - July 3, 2010 Matinees: June 20th and 27th
Bottle
Bill
There is a state bill
being considered that would add 10 cents to the cost of beverage bottles in an attempt to
encourage people to recycle their bottles; today many bottles end up as
trash in bayous. The 10 cents would be refunded when the bottles are
recycled. Here is a link to the report.
Big
trash day is July 19th for 77008 and July 9th for 77009. In June the
City of Houston will be picking up Junk Waste. (Odd months are tree
waste. Even months are junk waste.)
Recycling days for 77008 and 77009 are the same, they are the
Thursdays of July: 1, 15, 29. Recycling and trash pickup are on the
same schedule again.
Curb side
recycling accepts plastics with numbers 1-5 and 7, newspaper, cardboard,
aluminum cans.
The Citizen Patrol logged 128 hours for May. We are always
accepting new volunteers for this HPD program. After training by HPD
and a background check by HPD you can patrol the neighborhood looking
for suspicious activity. For more information or to sign up please
contact
.
We currently have 154 people signed up for the Northside
Patrol. We need 210 to fully pay for the program. We are currently
have enough money to pay through Oct (73% funded). The contracts have
been signed and patrols will start in July. The June 17th issue of the
Leader has an article on our progress. http://issuu.com/burge/docs/leader_6-17/1?mode=a_p

Crime stats
up through June 18th
The PIP (Postive Interaction
Program) meeting on June 23rd will have Officer Terry Bratton from the
Houston Police Department's
Training Division will go over the "Shoot, Don't Shoot"
presentation.
The
matching grant paperwork for the Halbert Park tennis court project was
turned into the City of Houston. A big thank you to the Houston Parks
Board, our project coordinator. Donations to this non-profit private
501c3 organization go toward creating and improving parkland. For more
information see:
We
have so many choices for Italian food so close to home - Collina's,
Patronella's, Cavatore, Sweet Temptation, the list of good places to eat
goes on. But let's say you were over in the Galleria area, not ready
to return home, but with some time to wait for a table, then you could
go to 1936 Fountainview just south of San Felipe where La Vista is
serving steamed mussels, crab cakes, tomato capresse salad, potato
gnocchi, rib eye with mac n' cheese, pork chops, and offering a good
wine list while also allowing BYOB for a $5 corkage fee. There is a
large outdoor area where you can hang out and talk. http://www.fatbutter.com/contact_us.htm
Membership
Please become a member of Sunset Heights Civic Club.
Membership dues are our main source of income. This allows us to do the
park projects like the Tennis courts, the butterfly garden, the doggie
bags, the website, and more.
There are several
ways to pay
for your annual membership.
3. Just come by
the monthly
meeting and do it in person.
We also have Sponsorships that
companies can do. For just $100, a company can sponsor the newsletter
and get a graphic link in each of the 12 issues. The three month
sponsorship is $30.
One
question that comes up frequently is whether or not we are
non-profit. The civic club is a 501(c)(4) organization. That means the
civic
club
is a non-profit and tax exempt, but donations to the civic club
are not
tax deductible.
