Telephone Museum 1714 Ashland St - The museum was started in 1966, in the basement of The Telephone Building , 3100 Main Street by the Telephone Company Pioneers. In 1991, the museum was relocated to 6500 West Loop South in Bellaire. In October 1996, though Southwestern Bell (remember that name?) designated a portion of the second floor of their 1714 Ashland Street location as the new home of the Museum. The Pioneers all throughout have devoted countless hours of their time to unpacking, sorting, tagging and preparing the displays for public tours. The museum contains telephones dating from 1876 to the present including unusual switchboards, like the Braille switchboard, once used by the Houston Lighthouse for the Blind, the ``beeping softballs'' for vision impaired baseball league players, tools, memorabilia, awards, plaques and other items associated with the location's Talking Book Repair and Eyeglass Center.
